520 _aThis report describes the rationale, structure and implementation of a seven week Training Program in Marine Geology, held in Palekhori, Cyprus, from 16 June to 3 August 1984. The participants were professional geologists drawn from the national geological surveys of 14 countries in Asia, Africa and South America. The instructors were experts in marine and Cyprus geology from Canada, U.S.A., Cyprus, U.K., Denmark, and F.R.G., with management and overall direction by the Centre for Marine Geology, Dalhousie University, Halifax. The program consisted of a balance of lecture and practical activities, with the geology of the Troodos, Cyprus, ophiolite, a well preserved uplifted segment of ocean crust, used to illustrate concepts. The session in Cyprus constitutes Part I of a two-year program. Part II will bring a large number of the Part I group to laboratories in Canada for two month periods between March and December of 1985.
