| 520 | _aThe dentition gas been examined in two groups of skeletal material from the excavations of the Chalcolithic settlement sites of Lemba Lakkous and Kissonerga Mosphilia, lying to the north of Paphos in western Cyprus. The burials were not in a cemetery, but lay between the houses. A high proportion of the skeletons proved to be those of children of adolescents, and the dentition war of particular value in estimating individual age in this material. Children aged from birth to 12 years formed 65% of the material from Lemba Lakkous and 62,5% of that from Kissonerga Mosphilia. Adults over 20 years made up only 26,9% of the Lemba Lakkous groups and 31,2% of the Kissonerga Mosphilia group. An apparent difference in the age distribution of the small numbers of adults in the tow groups proved not to be statistically significant. Dental caries war present in both population groups. The prevalence of the disease in adolescents and adults from Lemba Lakkous (6,1% of permanent teeth at risk were affected) was higher than in those from Kissonerga Mosphilia (2,3% permanent teeth affected) and the difference proved to be statistically significant. | ||
