Includes bibliographical references (p. 52-55).
Detailed mapping and description of the various geological units along the gabbro-dyke contact of the ophiolite in Cyprus has been carried out. Geochemistry is used to show a back arc basin as the environment of formation; and geochemical fractionation trends are also discussed. Fluid inclusion studies are used to identify the hydrothermal fluids involved as seawater, and the temperature of passage of the fluids through the ophiolite as between +234oC to +414oC. Orientation of chilled margins in the sheeted dyke complex show the original spreading centre to be to the West of the present day complex
