The metal amphoroid craters found in Cyprus at the end of the Late Bronze Age constitute an important type of find as they are centainly not simple of cheap objects of everyday use. People who had them in their ownership must have belonged to the upper social strata. An attempt will be made in this paper to answer the following questions: a)How did they find their way to Cyprus? Were they exchange products, royal gifts of were there other reasons that caused them to be brogth to Cyprus? b)Their place of manufacture is a persisting question not only for the objects in discussion but for many other contemporary objects found in Cyprus. Were they made in Cyprus of imported from Greece? c)Their chromology, also a much discussed topic leads to the question whether they actually belong ot the dated contexts in which they were found or whether they are heirlooms/ofjects from an earlier era which were deposited in those particular contexts for a particular reason. I will attempt to give an adequate ansuer to these difficult questions as accuretely as possible.
