This work divides the stratigraphic sequence into an autochtonous section and an allochtonous section. The autochtonous section comprises the Troodos Igneous Complex and the Troodos Pillow Lava Group, the Simou Formation, the Peyia Formation, the Pano Lefkara Formation, the Mavroli Conglomerate, the Terra Limestone, the Pakhna Chalk, the Yiolou Formation, the Pissouri Marl and the Akamandis Formation. The allochtonous section is better known as the Trypa Group and is composed of the Pharkonia Pillow Lava, the Petra tou Roumiou Limestone, the Mamonia Formation, the Akamas Sandstone and Bastite Serpentinite. The Trypa Group also is represented by a metamorphosed facies caused by dynamothermal metamorphism of the normal section when it was intruded by Bastite Serpentinite. The Mamonia Melange of previous workers is interpreted as partly tectonic in origin but predominantly the result of mass wasting of the Trypa Group. The term Trypa Melange is introduced in place of the confusing term Mamonia Melange.
The stratigraphy of Cyprus has been organized into an autochtonous and an allochtonous unit. The autochton includes: the Simou Formation, the Trypa Melange, the Peyia Formation, the Pano Lefkara Chalk, the Mavroli Conglomerate, the Terra Limestone, the Pakhna Chalk, the Yiolou Formation, the Pissouri Formation, and the Akamandis Formation as well as unnamed Quaternary units.
