The study of Aegean civilisation does not restrict itself specifically to the Aegean. Exchanges with other regions of the Mediterranean, especially its Eastern part, resulted in cultural contract which manifested itself in artistic productions. The advantageous geographical position of Cyprus, the wealth of its copper deposits and its long-term interactions with the East, were decisive factors in the establishment of links between the Aegean, Syria and Palestine. Recent developments, mainly the result of underwater discoveries, highlight the role that Cyprus played in these contact. Cyprus role gained in importance at the end of the Late Bronze Age when major Aegean centres suffered destruction and Aegean civilisation war transferred to Cyprus from where it deeply influenced the East.
