Nell' area di Piedimonte Etneo, lungo il versante nord-orientale dell' Etna, nella zona periferica del vulcano, sono presenti lave alcalibasaltiche riconosciute in due affioramenti, a S. Venera e al M. Nardello. A. S. Venera l' alcalibasalto poggia direttamente sulle argille marnose del Siciliano.Stratigraficamente le lave vengono inquadrate nel piu antico complesso di vulcaniti dell' Etna presente nella zona, ma non si esclude per l' alcalibasalto di S. Venera anche un' eta ancora piu antica. |
