Οπισθόφυλλο: Το παρόν λεξικό περιλαμβάνει όρους βυζαντινής αρχιτεκτονικής και γλυπτικής οι οποίοι χρησιμοποιούνται στη σύγχρονη βιβλιογραφία. Με βάση την ελληνική γλώσσα, δίνονται οι αντίστοιχοι όροι και τα συνώνυμά τους σε εννέα γλώσσες: την αγγλική, την αλβανική, τη γαλλική, τη γερμανική, την ιταλική, τη ρουμανική, τη βουλγαρική, τη ρωσική και τη σερβική. Τα λήμματα συνοδεύονται από σχέδια και φωτογραφίες που έχουν επιλεγεί για να λειτουργήσουν ερμηνευτικά. Η έκδοση φιλοδοξεί να καλύψει ένα σημαντικό κενό στη βιβλιογραφία, καθώς δεν υπάρχει αντίστοιχη εργασία σε ελληνικό και διεθνές επίπεδο, και θα αποτελέσει εξαιρετικά χρήσιμο εργαλείο για τους ερευνητές της βυζαντινής αρχαιολογίας. Στόχος του λεξικού είναι αφενός να καταγραφούν οι όροι που χρησιμοποιούνται για τη δήλωση συγκεκριμένων μορφών και τύπων ώστε να αποτελέσουν το έναυσμα για τη δημιουργία ενός θησαυρού κοινών όρων, και αφετέρου να διατηρηθεί, χάρη στους συνώνυμους όρους, ο πλούτος των εθνικών γλωσσών. Παράλληλα, θα ενισχυθεί η γλωσσική πολυμορφία στο πλαίσιο της ευρωπαϊκής πολυπολιτισμικότητας, με τη διευκόλυνση της συγγραφής αλλά και της μελέτης πονημάτων που έχουν γραφεί στις εθνικές αυτές γλώσσες = The Multilingual illustrated dictionary of byzantine architecture and sculpture terminology contains terms of Byzantine architecture and sculpture in current scholarly usage. For each term of the source language (Greek) the corresponding term and its synonyms are given in nine target languages. English, Albanian, French, German, Italian, Romanina, Bulgarian, Russian and Serbian. Lemmata are accompanied by drawings and photographs, chosen in order to assist interpretation. The present edition hopes to fill a majior gap in the relevant literature, since no work of similar scope in available either in Greek or any other language, and to constitute a useful tool for researchers in Byzantine archaeology. The aim of the Dictionary is firstly to construct a list of the terms used for the denotation of specific elements, items or types, which will serve as an incentive for the creation of a thesaurus of common terminology, and secondly to preserve, thanks to the listing of synonyms, the wealth of linguistic resources of each national language. All the same time, the Dictionary will encourage the production and reception of works in these languages and will enhance linguistic plurality within the framework of European multiculturalism.
