Summary, etc. There are a number of parallels between the Classical and Mesopotamian notions of afterlife, but for the most part the concepts of afterlife in the tow societies are dissimilar. This paper gives a presentation of the main concepts about afterlife in the mythical literature; a brief overview of the Mesopotamian netherworld in the literature at various periods; consideration of the gods and functions relating to the dead; and of the conditions of the dead. Then follows a discussion of major parallels and contrasts of these there aspects in Greek mythical literature; a brief overview of the Mesopotamian netherworld in the literature at various periods; consideration of the gods and functions relating to the dead; and of the conditions of the dead. Then follows a discussion of major parallels and contrasts of these three aspects in Greek mythical literature, taking into account the development of Greek ideas of the afterlife down to the end of the Early Archaic period in Greece.
