Hydrogeological characteristics of the water-bearing rocks of Cyprus /
Burdon, David J.
Hydrogeological characteristics of the water-bearing rocks of Cyprus / by David J. Burdon. - Cyprus: [Department of Water Development], [1997]. - 10 p. : tables ; 33 cm. +6 tables.
Conduct tables: record of borehole.
Includes bibliographical references (p. 10).
When classified according to the geological formation in which they occur, the underground water reservoirs of Cyprus fall into two major categories. One embraces the older crystalline rocks which occupy the higher areas of heavier rainfall; these rocks hold water in joints and fissures and yield it from springs. The other category embraces the Neogene and Quaternary sediments which occupy the lower areas of lighter rainfall, but which are also fed by infiltration from river-beds; these rocks hold water in their pore-space and yield it only when tapped by wells or boreholes. The remainder of the rocks of Cyprus seldom yield a useful quantity of water; they occupy an intermediate geological/topographical position between the two water bearing categories.
